Ronald Snyder

Mr. Ronald Snyder has over twenty years of software development and management experience covering a broad range of technologies and application domains. His recent area of focus has been in the application of Java and distributed object technology to the development of secure, robust, and scaleable multi-tiered information systems.

Mr. Snyder is Senior Research Engineer at Mobile Intelligence, and is currently leading development of key software components for DARPA's Ultra*Log program. This has included the design of the MIC Case-Based Reasoner and a number of Cougaar infrastructure components.

Before joining MIC, Mr. Snyder was the manager of General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) software engineering department with responsibility for as many as 100 software developers. His department developed embedded software for a number of high profile military vehicle systems such as the M1A2 Main Battle Tank, the Wolverine Heavy Assault Bridge, the Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV), and the Crusader advanced field artillery system. As department manager his responsibilities included personnel recruiting and administration, resource planning and acquisition, customer interaction, and the oversight of software engineering activities relative to product development.

While at GDLS, Mr. Snyder also led a software technology modernization initiative. In this role he directed research into the application of current and emerging technologies, methods, and tools supporting the rapid development and deployment of portable and robust mission critical systems. He has an in-depth understanding of many of the modern technologies and methods that can be combined to achieve dramatic improvements in both product development time and quality. This work included participation in industry research involving the use of Java, CORBA and UML-based code generation tools in real-time embedded systems.

Mr. Snyder has extensive experience with the definition and implementation of software development processes. From 1989 through 1994 he held the lead position in GDLS' Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG). In this capacity he was responsible for the development and execution of a software process improvement program that ultimately resulted in the achievement of Level-3 as defined by the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM). This rating placed GDLS among the top 15% of all software development organizations assessed using this method. Mr. Snyder was the principal author of GDLS' Software Standards and Procedures Manual that was a key element in satisfying CMM Level-3 requirements. This background in formal software process definition and improvement combined with hands-on management experience and technology research provide important insights enabling the application of appropriate software processes to a wide range of projects.

Mr. Snyder served in the U.S. Air Force for 9 years at a number of domestic and overseas locations. Mr. Snyder has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Software from the University of the State of New York. He continues to broaden his education via training and certification programs covering a broad range of topics. Recent accomplishments include the completion of Sun certification programs for Java Programmer, Java Developer and Enterprise Architect for the Java-2 platform.
